Evolving as a learner and as a teacher

My philosophy on learning and teaching is constantly evolving, as it should. What I currently believe about learning and teaching is definitely not the same as when I started teaching 13 years ago. I hope that my views continue to change as I explore with students how to create music together.
Teaching in a large school and with students from so many different backgrounds has really opened my eyes to what it means to be a learner and a musical being. All students desire to be musical, but that desire manifests itself in a variety of ways. Some students want to learn how to play guitar, some students are curious as to how to create their own music. Other students are less interested in learning how to create but more interested in learning about the history of their music. It is my hope that I can help students find their musical paths.
